A Perfect Ski Getaway in Siskiyou!

The holidays are upon us and Siskiyou is celebrating big!  Skiing, snowboarding, Victorian celebrations and après-ski – California’s north has you covered.  Here are some of the best adventures, lodging and food to enjoy a festive and epic winter getaway!

Mount Shasta Ski Park

Embrace your inner mountain at the Mount Shasta Ski Park!  Conveniently located ten minutes from both the quaint towns of Mount Shasta or McCloud, it boasts more than 400 skiable acres with runs for all levels and access to the backcountry.  Snowboarders will also celebrate challenging half pipes and trail runs.  There’s even snow tubing and night skiing for anyone looking for a unique snow adventure!

Mount Shasta Nordic Center

A community-supported off-the-grid cross country ski area, the Mount Shasta Nordic Center boasts nearly 15 miles of trails for skate and classic-country skiing, as well as a couple of miles for snowshoeing.  They have classic & skate ski and snowshoe rentals for all ages and abilities, as well as a cozy warming hut at the trailhead with hot drinks and snacks for purchase.

Charming Mount Shasta

According to TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel website, the town of Mount Shasta was named in 2017 as the “Most Charming Ski Town in America.”  A classic small town with a walkable downtown and lots of lodging and entertainment options that won’t break the bank on a family trip, it’s only ten minutes from Mount Shasta Ski Park.   The Best Western Tree House Inn, The Mount Shasta Resort and the Inn at Mount Shasta are just three of the great basecamps in town from which to explore all Mount Shasta has to offer.

Adorable McCloud

Downright swoon-able and packed with charming inns like the McCloud Mercantile, the McCloud Hotel, the newly renovated Shasta View Lodge and the McCloud River Inn, McCloud is a great option for a romantic winter getaway. This coming weekend before the Christmas holiday also marks the final days of the Victorian Christmas Festival where the whole town is decked out to bring out your inner Charles Dickens.  It’s a holiday celebration you don’t want to miss!

Après -Ski

Once you come back from the slopes, there’s no shortage of spots to celebrate with a delightful après-ski.  Some of our favorite spots include Lily’s in Mt. Shasta and the Axe & Rose in McCloud, complete with a fireplace.  Or, for a soul-warming hot chocolate or tea, head for local favorites like the White Mountain Café in McCloud.
