Forks of the Sacramento River to Gumboot Lake Trail

Forks of the Sacramento River to Gumboot Lake Trail

The South and Middle Forks of the Sacramento River are an angler’s dream in fishing season and a snowshoer’s paradise in winter. Most of this remote and isolated snowshoe route allows you to look down on this highest stretch of the icy clear Upper Sacramento River as it bounds over boulders and rinses rock slabs. You’ll have so many close-up views of pristine pools, frothy rapids, charging cascades, and mini-falls that you might have to factor in more time for taking extra photos. The numerous views eastward of Mounts Shasta and Shastina will likely use up some film on partly cloudy or clear days.
