Siskiyou Loves Tacos

With a couple new food trucks popping up in Siskiyou, it’s time to give a shout out to everyone’s favorite street food – the taco. And Siskiyou loves Tacos! Whether it’s Tuesday or any other day of the week, Siskiyou has some tasty options in just about every corner of the county. Here’s a round up of some of our local favorites!

Señor Tequila – Tulelake

Cozy and unassuming, this gem of a Mexican restaurant is well worth a stop in Tulelake in east Siskiyou, home of the Lava Beds National Monument and some of the best birding in the nation. Now, while Señor Tequila doesn’t serve tequila as one might expect, they do dish up some seriously legit tasty tacos, as well as other standards like fajitas and burritos. If it’s a day they’re making the handmade corn tortillas, it’s worth the mini-splurge. You will not be disappointed!

Poncho & Lefkowitz – Mount Shasta

What’s not to love about tasty street tacos and gourmet hot dogs with an epic view of majestic Mount Shasta? (The food combo might also help explain the restaurant’s name!) This hopping outside joint usually has a line, but moves faster than you think. It’s also popular for great fish tacos and veggie options, making it a totally crave-worthy stop for just about everyone in downtown Mount Shasta.

La Perla de Nayarit – Dunsmuir

Everything in this charming family-owned restaurant in historic downtown Dunsmuir is housemade, from the warm and fresh corn and flour tortillas to the mole to the agua de Jamaica and sangria. Tacos come in both soft and crunchy styles, so take your pick! It’s also a win on the ambience scale – perfect for lunch or date night!

Ke’ Tacos – Yreka

A relative newcomer on the Yreka food scene, this local family-owned restaurant serves up delicious panqueques, chilaquiles, quesadillas, burritos and, of course, tacos! They’ve got a well-stocked salsa bar and brightly painted interior that makes it a favorite fast and tasty option for breakfast and lunch. Be sure to try the killer Taco Campechano with its delicious combo of Asada and Longaniza. Bonus? There’s a parking lot in back.

Cortwright Market & Deli – Montague

Don’t be fooled by the fact this deli is attached to a gas station, because inside are some bomb tacos for cheap – especially on Taco Tuesday! The tacos are fried and topped with straightforward lettuce and tomato topping, and the whole combo makes this a favorite go-to option for those in the know.

El Zaguan – Yreka & Weed

With both a restaurant in Yreka and a food truck near the Grocery Outlet at the south Weed exit, you know it’s got to be good! The stuffing in the tacos is generous and flavorful, and there’s a wide range of spice levels, smokiness and meat choices (including traditional favorites like lengua).

Rico’s Tacos – Yreka

Tucked away in north Yreka, this family-owned restaurant serves up handcrafted, made-from-scratch cuisine – and their tacos are no exception. They also serve burgers and sandwiches so if your group can’t decide on lunch, this place has a little something for everyone.

Tacos Tau – Ft. Jones & Yreka

Siskiyou’s newest food truck, Tacos Tau splits its time between Ft. Jones and Yreka and is quickly becoming a local favorite for its straightforward fare and tasty tacos. They also offer a super crispy and veggie or vegan tacos, and make a variety of agua frescas. If you’re on a tight schedule, you can also call and place your order ahead!
