2nd Saturday Art Opening “Civil Twilight” & “Around Town”

2nd Saturday Art Opening “Civil Twilight” & “Around Town”

You are invited to the opening reception for “Civil Twilight,” a diverse multi-media exhibit in SAM’s main gallery by five artists: Michael Howell, Christine Hartmann, Greg Mohan, Katie James, and Suzanne Lewing.

This exhibit will continue in the Main Gallery through Saturday, April 4th. Here is a little snapshot of the artists in this show:

Michael Howell is originally from Los Angeles and has lived and created art in the San Fernando Valley, Sacramento, and Marysville. Since his move to Dunsmuir in 2016, Michael’s experience producing painted, photographed, and multi-media works of art has guided him to volunteer at the Siskiyou Arts Museum, where he has also participated in group shows.

Christine Hartmann is a scientist, inventor, and artist. As an artist, Christine has focused visual representation as a means to create shared understanding and promote peace that transcends human diversity in thought and experience. Her inspiration comes from many sources, and her subjects range from common objects and animals to transcendent beings and ideas.

Greg Mohan is a millwork artist, painter, and sculptor. He worked for over 30 years as a fine finish millwork artist in the San Francisco Bay Area, Hawaii, and Beverley Hills. Over the past 5 years, he has moved his attention to painting and sculpture, with a focus on natural materials and repurposing found objects.

K8T (Katherine James) was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she studied art and worked in a multitude of artistic projects. Her work in scenic design, commercial displays, metal work and sculptures helped her develop a wide range of skills. Since relocating to Dunsmuir last year, she has found inspiration in Nature, and the creativity in unique mixed media forms. Kate is a salvage artist at heart, creating beauty in lost treasures.

Suzanne Lewing is a digital artist who was born into an artistic southern family, and was surrounded by every art form from fiber to music and all things in-between. Suzanne believes her upbringing in Texas and Louisiana has influenced her eclectic style, reflecting the neighborhoods and family she grew up around … full of shifting colors, aesthetics, and cultural influences. Through trial and error, she taught herself how to use a computer to create what she couldn’t translate to paper or canvas.
