Directions: From the beginning of Highway 97 in Weed, drive northeast for 11.8 miles. Turn right onto Bolam Road, which is also Forest Service Road 4321. This is the last major turn to the right before Highway 97 intersects County Road A12 on the left. Once on Bolam Road, proceed 0.3 miles to an intersection, staying to the right. Continue 3.7 miles to the roads end at the trailhead.

When you visit Sisson Meadow you will see views of Mt. Shasta, Mt. Eddy, Black Butte and Castle Spire. There is plenty wildlife and plants that will awe you. You have three options to access Sisson Meadow. You can get to it through East Castle Street from the main entrance, just two blocks up from Ace Hardware. You also can go through the entrance on Alder Street that starts near the waterfall. You can even come through the Rotary Trail that crosses behind Mt. Shasta Library. The boardwalks through the meadow will lead to the picnic area on Castle Street.

Trail to East Boulder Creek Falls:

The East Boulder Lake Loop begins mildly, following East Boulder Creek through a wide, shallow canyon. Craggy Peak, among the highest peaks in the Scott Mountains, can occasionally be observed through the fairly light forest cover. The creek remains on the right hand side of the trail, which passes through intermittent meadows. About 0.5 miles from the trailhead the route crosses the wilderness boundary, entering the Trinity Alps Wilderness. Continuing past the boundary, watch for faint use trails branching off to the right. These lead to Lower Boulder Lake and the Cement Banks area, a geologic formation similar to the Cement Bluff found at the east end of the Scott Mountains, near Mount Eddy and China Mountain. After 0.75 miles from the wilderness boundary, the trail begins to climb a little more earnestly, swinging close to a small waterfall a short distance from the outlet of East Boulder Lake. The rock along this section of the trail is gray granite, a stark contrast to the bright red rock that composes the East Boulder Lake Basin. After climbing above the falls, the trail crosses the creek immediately prior to being deposited at East Boulder Lake’s outlet.

When the weather’s nice, a stroll through Downtown McCloud is the perfect way to spend your afternoon. This downtown is a registered historical district, and includes seventeen different buildings designated as landmarks themselves. Heritage Junction Museum

Learn a little more about this historic region with a stop at the Heritage Junction Museum. Incorporated in 1983, this museum aims to collect and preserve the important pieces of McCloud’s history that might have been otherwise lost. McCloud River Waterfalls Trail & McCloud Falls (Lower, Middle, Upper)

If you’re daring and the weather’s nice, you can even jump into the surrounding water by the Lower Falls — though we advise you to exercise extreme caution when jumping from high surfaces.

The Great Shasta Rail Trail

In all, the Great Shasta Rail Trail is 80 miles of scenic trail. From McCloud, you can access one end of the trail and follow it as far as you’d like. Whether you’re hiking or biking, you’ll find local flora, animals and stunning views. Dogs are also welcome on the trails, as long as they are leashed.

McCloud Reservoir

Once the weather turns warm, the best way to beat the heat is with a visit to the McCloud Reservoir, where you can swim, kayak, fish and explore to your heart’s content. This is a great spot for families, in particular — kids will love a chance to splash around in the shallows as parents unwind on the sandy banks.

South Gate Meadows Trail

For more experienced hikers, the South Gate trail takes you right up the side of Mt. Shasta, and is one of the only maintained trails on the mountain itself. While this is a more difficult hike, it’s worth the extra effort — you’ll follow multiple spring-fed creeks as you make your way up the mountain, and your reward is absolutely breathtaking views of both the mountain and of the valley below you.

A Quick Drive Away

Due to its proximity to Mt. Shasta, McCloud is also a great place to stay if you’re looking for that quiet, small-town experience, while still wanting to make the most out of your Siskiyou stay. Particularly in the snowier months, you’ll find plenty to do a stone’s throw from McCloud. Enjoy sledding at Snowman’s Hill, for instance, or spend your stay zipping down the mountain at Mt. Shasta Ski Park or the Mt. Shasta Nordic Center.

Take a Hike, but bring a jacket!

Solitude and natural beauty are two things that come to mind when visiting Siskiyou in November. The rush of summer tourists has passed, and things seem to start settling down to prepare for winter. The weather can be crisp in the morning for a cozy coffee drink at Zephyr Books & Coffee, but warm by the afternoon for a refreshing cold beer on the patio at Etna Brewing Co. Wearing layers is a must and the sunsets are unbeatable. Whether you prefer to enjoy the outdoors in the wild Klamath National Forest, in caves at Lava Beds National Monument, or overlooking of one of the three McCloud River Waterfalls, November is one of the most ideal months for exploring the outdoors. This is due to our many microclimates. Whether it is mountainous, high desert, rugged alpine, valley or river, the varied climates across Siskiyou add to the extensive biodiversity and endless outdoor opportunities that can be had year-round.

Explore Native American History in Siskiyou

November is Native American History Month, a time to celebrate traditions, language and stories of the indigenous communities of this land. Native people have been traced to inhabit Northern California for over 10,000 years and have maintained a strong cultural identity in Siskiyou through much adversity over time.

The tribes that call Siskiyou home are the Karuk, Shasta, Modoc, and Yurok. The Karuk, which is one of California’s largest tribes is headquartered in Happy Camp, in West Siskiyou. Visitors can experience the cultural heritage of the Karuk thorough a collection of items at the People’s Center and Museum. In Yreka, check out the Native American Gallery in the Siskiyou County Museum, which explores the history and artistry of the Karuk and other local tribes.

Today, the tribes in Siskiyou continue to honor and preserve their cultural heritage through events, education, and community initiatives. They play a vital role in local ecosystems and contribute to the cultural landscape of Siskiyou and California. Rain Rock Casino: Expansion and Destination Resort 

This month also announces an exciting addition to Siskiyou’s many lodging options. Yreka’s Rain Rock Casino, owned by the Karuk tribe, proudly completed a major expansion project. They nearly doubled the number of slot machines on the gaming floor to an expanded 6,000 square foot non-smoking area. Another exciting part of the project is the 43,000 square foot Rain Rock Casino Resort Hotel that, completed in November 2024, will comprise of 72 guest rooms and additional 8 cottage suites on the property. Five splash pools and soaking tubs, an outdoor fire pit, 4,000 square foot event center, gift shop, and May Yaj Asian Express Restuarant are some of the other new and exciting features. From there, turn left onto Wintoon Way, then turn right onto Hotlum Drive. Turn right onto Widow Springs Drive then turn left onto Snowline Circle. Snowline Circle turns left and becomes Summit View Drive. Turn right onto Lakeview Drive, then turn left onto Widow Springs Drive.

Highlights: Beautiful waterfall, gorgeous views of Mt. Shasta

The upper section of Wagon Creek Falls is quite difficult to reach. Due to it being hard to reach a lot of people are unable to see its beauty. The cascades and waterfalls can be seen from a couple different ways. They are both long and steep hikes, but whoever takes the trek up with be in awe over the most beautiful and powerful creeks in the region. The falls can be reached via Wagon Creek from Mt. Eddy Bowl.  

Getting there:

Unfortunately, the upper section of Wagon Creek is difficult to reach. There is no doubt that this has, in part, contributed to its anonymity, and to the anonymity of Wagon Creek Falls. The cascades and the waterfalls can be approached from a couple of directions, both of which are long and in some cases, gruelingly steep journeys. For those how make the trek, they are rewarded with one of the most wild and beautiful and powerful creeks in the region. The falls can be accessed via Wagon Creek from the Mt. Eddy Bowl.

There’s so much to do throughout the beautiful Siskiyou region, you’ll need at least several days – if not a week or more – to explore this special place and all its beauty. Start planning some vacation time in California’s North, where you can celebrate Independence Day and so much more.

MOUNT SHASTA

Located midway between San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, the city of Mount Shasta sits at the foot of Mount Shasta, the beautiful mountain that is also the second-highest volcano in the continental U.S.

With an incredible view as its backdrop, the Mount Shasta Chamber of Commerce will present a 4^th of July celebration from July 3-6. After the street fair and live music on July 3, the Mount Shasta Fun Run and Walk kicks off at 8:30 a.m. on July 4, with events ranging from a 2-mile youth race to a 5-mile race that’s expected to draw approximately 1,000 runners. The races start at the corner of Castle and N. Mt. Shasta Blvd. in Downtown Mount Shasta.

The ”Shining Stars” 4^th of July Parade will begin its march along Mount Shasta Blvd. at noon, preceded by an Artisan Market and Street Fair at 10 a.m. Don’t miss the spectacular fireworks display at dusk. The street fair will continue on July 5-6, along with a variety of live music the whole family will enjoy.

Lake Siskiyou in Mount Shasta offers plenty of activities, starting with swimming, kayaking, fishing, boating, camping and walking along the 6.5-mile Lake Siskiyou Trail Loop around the lake, as well a prime spot to enjoy the panoramic views of Mount Shasta. Don’t leave without having some fun at Splash Zone, located at Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort. The group of four inflatable floating “islands” feature slides, trampolines and high jump-off points for maximum enjoyment. Boats, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks and more are available to rent.

Many hikers and bikers who have visited the Siskiyou region quickly realize there may be no better place to go on an adventure, a prime reason being the alpine meadows and spectacular views. The 5.7-mile Clear Creek Trail leads to an excellent spot to see Mud Creek Falls, considered one of the most lovely falls in the area. Another journey can be taken along the 2-mile Heart Lake Trail, which leads to Castle Lake and Heart Lake and, if weather permits, a vision of the mountain reflected in the lake. For a truly relaxing time, head to Mount Shasta City Park, where you’ll find picnic areas, a playground and a nature trail the whole family will enjoy.

Mount Shasta is home to excellent restaurants and bars, such as Pipeline Craft Taps and Kitchen, which specializes in comfort food. Yaks on the 5 (which also has a location in Dunsmuir) features in incredible assortment of gourmet burgers to choose from, or start your day early with a breakfast sandwich or bakery item.

You’ll find a wonderful variety of fruits, vegetables and more at the Mount Shasta Farmers Market on Monday, June 30th and every Monday from 3:30-6 p.m. on E. Castle Street in downtown Mount Shasta.

MONTAGUE

The city of Montague has planned an action-packed holiday, as the Montague 4^th of July Freedom Festival will be held July 3 through 6th Featuring a massice civic fireworks display, carnival, local vendors, food and drink and more, will take place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 4

Have fun at the carnival, held all three days, cheer the participants during rodeo events and dance to the music at concerts, held at various times during the festival. The Freedom Festival Car Show will ride into town from noon-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 6 at Hoag Park in Montague.

SCOTT VALLEY

For active families, Kidder Creek Camp in Scott Valley will host the 2025 “Dirty Dash” this Fourth of July weekend. Bring the whole family and dash through an outdoor obstacle course and mud race. Choose between a 1.5K for kids up to age 12 or 5K race for teens and adults. Come out and have a blast while supporting Kidder Creek— you won’t want to miss it!  Register at www.kiddercreek.org

WHILE YOU’RE IN THE AREA …

There’s plenty to do and many places to visit throughout the Siskiyou region. Show your support for local businesses at area farmers’ markets, where you’ll find the freshest fruits, vegetables and other items. The farmers’ market in Weed is held each Wednesday from 3:30-6 p.m. through Oct. 25 at Bel Air Park. The certified farmers’ market in Yreka In Miner Street park on Friday’s from 4-6:30pm. through October. You can find the flavors of Etna each Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon through Sept. at the Etna Farmers’ Market, which takes places on N. Highway 3.

California is home to a number of beautiful waterfalls, and Siskiyou has several that are worth the walk. The trail to Hedge Creek Falls is less than a mile long, making this a must-see on your list of activities. A park off the Dunsmuir Ave. exit on Interstate 5 in Dunsmuir heads toward Mount Shasta and the 30- to 35-foot falls drop. But that’s just the beginning of your adventure, as the trail’s route leads to passage behind the waterfall. Continuing along Hedge Creek, the trail will take you to an observation deck high over where the creek and the Sacramento River meet. From the deck is a jaw-dropping view of Mount Shasta.

Not to be outdone, McCloud Falls in McCloud is home to three waterfalls, and thanks to the 4-mile round-trip McCloud River Falls Trail, you can get up close to each one of them. The well-maintained trail, which is considered easy to moderate, offers several spots where you can go for a swim, and a section of the trail is paved for wheelchairs.

Siskiyou offers an incredible number of adventures to go on, whether you do so by car, bike, boat or foot. Each town in the region has its own charm, so make sure to reserve enough time in one or more of the many lodging choices so that you can see it all.

Hedge Creek Falls

Nature lovers of all ages will appreciate the beauty of Hedge Creek Falls, and the best part? It’s a simple, short hike. Accessible via an easy trail, this hidden waterfall cascades into a cavern behind it, creating a unique and enchanting experience. The trailhead is conveniently located near the I-5 highway, making it an easy stop along your way into town. You’ll also be able to hike to a platform that hangs over the Sacramento River, providing you with a stunning view of Mount Shasta.

Dunsmuir City Park & Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens

Although the phrase “city park” might call to mind images of modest playgrounds and picnic tables, Dunsmuir City Park has far more to offer. With over 14 acres of scenic areas to explore, this park, which runs adjacent to the Sacramento River, is a great place to take any sized gathering, whether you’re looking to enjoy some fresh air with a partner or you’re planning a family reunion. Located within the city park are the verdant Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens, which account for about 10 acres of the park’s total area. In the warmer months, you’ll find stunning native plants and flowers growing along the river trails, making this a perfect spot to snap some photos.

Castle Crags

Open year-round, this 170-million-year-old landmark is accessible from a few different points. Head up the Vista Point trail, a fairly easy hike that most are able to navigate, to see these stunning rock formations as well as an epic view of Mount Shasta. Or, for a more challenging hike, you can follow Crags Trail, which takes you right to the base of the towering Castle Dome.

Ted Fay Fly Shop

With such easy access to the Upper Sacramento River, you’d be missing out if you didn’t plan to spend an afternoon catching a fish or two for lunch. Head to Ted Fay Fly Shop to make sure you have everything you need — since 1950, this friendly, full-service destination shop has been providing downtown Dunsmuir with all its fishing needs. Once you’ve picked up all the fishing essentials, spend an afternoon trying to snag a Rainbow Trout, which swim in abundance through easily fishable areas of the Upper Sac River.

Hit the Slopes

Mt. Shasta is often referred to as Siskiyou’s crown jewel, and for good reason. This majestic giant surveys nearly all of Siskiyou County. In the winter months, it becomes one of the best spots to get some great skiing or snowboarding runs in, regardless of skill level. Head to Mt. Shasta Ski Park to traverse the park’s over 400 acres of skiable terrain. You can take lessons from the experts before zipping down the mountain, and all ages are welcome, so it’s a great stop for anyone traveling with the family. Or, head to the Mt. Shasta Nordic Center, where you’ll find access to over a dozen ski trails and a cozy base area for unwinding afterward.

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous — and you’re confident on a pair of skis — you can also venture further into Siskiyou’s beautiful natural landscape and try your hand at backcountry skiing. While we don’t recommend this for beginners, it can be a great way to explore Mt. Shasta, provided you follow all safety precautions. Bunny Flat Trail provides backcountry adventurers a chance to forge out into the surrounding wilderness of the mountain, where you’re sure to find breathtaking views and a truly unforgettable experience. For a gentler ski experience that still allows you to escape into nature, you can also head to Sand Flat Trail for prime cross-country skiing trails.

Totally Tubular! Snow Tubing & Sledding Opportunities

If you’re a little intimidated by the prospect of tackling the mountain slopes, no problem! There are plenty of places to get the same thrilling rush of flying down a snowy hill without having to strap into a board. In addition to its numerous skiing and snowboarding slopes, Mt. Shasta Ski Park boasts a large snow tubing hill, perfect for kids, adults and everyone in between. Or, for a BYOS (bring your own sled, of course!) experience, head to Snowman’s Hill, a designated sledding hill that offers sledders 300 feet of fast-paced downhill thrills.

Snowmobiling

Another great way to experience Siskiyou’s wild backcountry is atop a snowmobile. Snowmobilers can choose from one of three interconnected snowmobiling parks, each with warming huts, restrooms, designated parking areas and both groomed and ungroomed snowmobiling trails. At Deer Mountain Snowmobiling Park you’ll find everything you need for your snowmobiling adventure, including rentals, guided lessons and more, courtesy of Fun Factory Snowmobiling. Pilgrim Creek Snowmobiling Park and Doorknob Warming Hut Snow Park both offer hundreds of miles of adventurous trails to embark on as well.

‘Tis the Season

You can’t help but fall a little in love with the holidays if you’re spending them in Siskiyou. Get into the holiday spirit with some festive activities, like ice skating at Shastice Park. Take in the winter scenery at this fully outdoor ice rink, which welcomes skaters of all ages and experience levels.

Instead of buying a Christmas tree, start a new holiday tradition this year and head out into the snow-covered forests of Siskiyou to find your tree. Christmas tree cutting permits are available all December, and an afternoon spent searching for your perfect tree will be sure to make this holiday a standout. Even if you aren’t planning to take a Christmas tree home, it’s worth putting on your warmest winter boots and hiking some of Siskiyou’s best trails. In the winter, Lake Siskiyou might be too cold to swim in — but the views you’ll find along the trail loop make it a must-stop. Hedge Creek Falls or the McCloud Falls, both beginner-friendly waterfall hikes, are also excellent (and Instagrammable!) trails to wander in the colder months.

Black Bart’s Hideout

Black Bart, the infamous gentleman bandit of the Old West, is believed to have used a hidden cave behind Hedge Creek Falls in Dunsmuir, as one of his hideouts during his stagecoach-robbing spree in the 1880s. Nestled off I-5, this secluded spot along the Siskiyou Trail offered Bart both concealment and access to fresh water, allowing him to maintain his famously clean and refined appearance. Known for his polite demeanor and poetic notes left at crime scenes, Bart robbed Wells Fargo stagecoaches across Northern California and Southern Oregon, with several heists concentrated in Siskiyou County. His hideout beneath the waterfall remains a point of intrigue and local legend, drawing visitors curious about the outlaw who vanished mysteriously after serving time in San Quentin. You can visit this waterfall still today!

Lemurians

The Lemurians are mythical beings said to originate from the lost continent of Lemuria, a fabled land believed by some to have sunk beneath the Pacific Ocean. According to legend, survivors of this ancient, spiritually advanced civilization took refuge deep within Mount Shasta. These beings are often described as tall, wise, and peaceful, living in a hidden city called Telos beneath the mountain. The myth gained popularity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and many still believe that the region is a spiritual wonderland. Mount Shasta has since become a focal point for spiritual seekers and New Age believers, who view it as a portal to higher realms and a sanctuary for the Lemurians, whose presence is said to be felt through mysterious lights, strange encounters, and an aura of mystical energy surrounding the mountain. Spiritual Retreats and Sacred Places are popular destinations for visitors looking for an energetic experience.

Sasquatch

Siskiyou is considered one of the most active regions for Sasquatch sightings in the United States, earning it a reputation as the heart of Bigfoot country. With reports dating back to at least 1850, the area—particularly the Marble Mountains, Mount Shasta, and the Klamath River corridor—has been a hotspot for alleged encounters. One notable account involves three brothers who, during a 2010 expedition west of Yreka, reported hearing strange, deep vocalizations and later found signs suggesting the presence of a large, elusive creature. Researchers like David Paulides have documented dozens of sightings in the region, emphasizing its rich history of Bigfoot lore and the belief among some locals that these creatures may even winter in the area’s remote cave systems.

Coyote Steals Fire

The Karuk tribe, whose name means “upriver people,” have a rich tradition of oral storytelling that reflects their deep connection to the Klamath River and surrounding lands in northwestern California. Their legends often feature Coyote, a central figure in many Native American mythologies, who is portrayed as both a trickster and a cultural hero. In one well-known Karuk myth, Coyote Steals Fire, Coyote cunningly brings fire to humanity, a tale that explains the origin of fire and emphasizes themes of cleverness and sacrifice. Other stories include the Acoru Maidens, who represent natural elements and seasonal cycles, and tales of spirit journeys, where characters travel to the spirit world to gain wisdom or restore balance. These narratives are not just entertainment—they serve as moral lessons, cultural preservation, and spiritual guidance, passed down through generations in the Karuk language

Llao and Skell

The legend of Llao and Skell is a powerful tale from Klamath Native American mythology that explains the dramatic volcanic landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. Llao, the god of the underworld, lived beneath Mount Mazama (now Crater Lake), while Skell, the god of the sky, resided above Mount Shasta. When Llao fell in love with a mortal woman and was rejected, he erupted in fury, bringing destruction to the land. In response, Skell descended to protect the people, and the two deities engaged in a cataclysmic battle. Their war was so intense that it shattered Mount Mazama, forming Crater Lake. In the end, Skell triumphed, casting Llao back into the depths and sealing his domain with water. The lake and its central island, Wizard Island, are said to be the remnants of Llao’s defeat, symbolizing the eternal balance between darkness and light. The Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway that passes trhough Siskiyou on its way to Crater Lake.

Lost Humbug Creek Gold Mine

One of the most enduring lost treasure legends in Siskiyou is that of the Lost Humbug Creek Gold Mine. In the 1850s, during the height of the California Gold Rush, a miner traveling through the Humbug Creek area reportedly stumbled upon a rich vein of gold-bearing quartz while resting under a tree. He managed to collect a sack full of gold and brought it to his family in Hawkinsville, telling them of his accidental discovery. Tragically, when he returned to retrieve more, he fell ill and died before he could relocate the site. Despite numerous attempts by his family and later treasure hunters, the exact location of the mine was never found again. This tale, combined with the area’s documented gold production and the mysterious naming of “Humbug” by disillusioned miners, has kept the legend alive, drawing modern-day prospectors and curious adventurers to the region in hopes of striking it rich.

Mill Creek’s Missing Gold

The legend of Mill Creek’s Missing Gold is one of Siskiyou County’s most tantalizing tales of lost treasure. According to local lore, during the height of the California Gold Rush, a group of miners traveling through the Mill Creek area were ambushed by bandits. In a desperate attempt to protect their hard-earned fortune, the miners buried a large cache of gold somewhere near the creek before fleeing or being captured. Though some of the miners may have survived, none ever returned to reclaim the treasure—perhaps due to death, imprisonment, or simply being unable to relocate the exact spot. Over the decades, treasure hunters have scoured the area, drawn by whispers of the hidden hoard, but the gold has never been found. The story persists, fueled by the rugged terrain, the creek’s shifting course, and the enduring hope that the treasure still lies buried beneath the soil, waiting to be discovered.

Yreka Gold Heist

The Yreka Gold Heist is one of the most dramatic and mysterious crimes in Siskiyou’s modern history. On the morning of February 1, 2012, courthouse staff discovered that a significant portion of the county’s historic gold display—featuring nuggets and artifacts collected since the 1850s—had been stolen from the Siskiyou County Courthouse in Yreka. The thieves had broken in through a bathroom window and smashed a hole in the display case, grabbing what they could reach. Although both men were eventually caught and served prison time, the bulk of the stolen gold—valued at over $1.2 million—was never recovered and sparks conspiracy and speculation among locals to this day.

Mud Creek Falls is tucked into the bottom of the ,500 foot deep Mud Creek Canyon where the falls seem so small by the size of the canyon. Solid lava marches up Sargents Ridge, casting their shadows deep into the canyon. At the peak the Konwakiton Glacier ties to the mountains rocky slopes. The source of Mud Creek is melted water from the glacier. The whole scene is jaw dropping and it can be seen why Mud Creek Falls, such an amazing waterfall, can be lost in the big mountain. 

One of the main reasons people do not flock to Mud Creek Falls as much is the difficulty to get to it. Most people who come to see the waterfall view it from the Clear Creek Trail, a mile from the falls which is the along the east rim of Mud Creek Canyon. Although that seems far for viewing it can still be seen in great magnitude due to its size. For those wanting to be up close to the waterfall it is doable from a cross-country route from the Clear Creek Springs at the end of the Clear Creek Trail. This certain route takes you down the steep side of the Mud Creek Canyon to the falls where many people do not venture to.

It is thought to be the most beautiful sight on Mt. Shasta or some even argue the most beautiful anywhere in California. Mud Creek Falls may be seen as a lot bigger but with the view encompasses it makes the waterfall feel smaller. Ash Creek Falls fits perfectly in Ash Creek Canyon.

This waterfall has been left off of the most popular guide for waterfalls surprisingly. This is not the worst thing because it will not attract as many people. Besides not being in the guidebook, the waterfall is at the end of a cross-country route making it difficult to reach the falls attracting less people. The cross-country route begins at the Brewer Creek Trail which is the most isolated trail on Mt. Shasta. The steep trail over barren volcanic slopes takes you to a vista that is approx. 0.25 miles from the falls. Those that want to be even more up close can take a trail to the top of the waterfall and farther to the opposite side of the canyon where the views are not nearly as good. You can reach the Cold Springs area from here as well. When you get to Ash Creek Falls you will not forget it, it is that amazing.

Healing Waters
