Gray Butte Trail
Gray Butte Trail is a moderate 3.5 mile round trip hike out of Panther Meadows that passes a sacred Native American site and old-growth forest on the way to an expansive view and is the only dog-friendly hike on the mountain. Stunning views stretch in all directions, follow the line of the Cascades to their southern terminus and the region of Lassen Peak to the southeast. Look west to Castle Crags, the Trinity Divide, and the Trinity Alps. The stark steepness of Shasta itself looms to the north.
