Siskiyou X Days is a ten-day all-county open studios/art experience event, featuring and connecting the diverse and unique artistic talent of Siskiyou.
Siskiyou X Days highlights the vibrancy of arts activities in the county, uplifts historically excluded artists, and promotes smaller communities far off I5. Connecting and supporting artists is crucial network building that helps artists remain here and practicing their art forms, tending to community, and keeping Siskiyou creative. Beyond facilitating connection, access to funding is increasingly important to support the arts economy from the base up. “Paying artists to participate in X Days has always been a defining feature of this event – one that sets it apart from traditional open studios experiences.” says Arts Council Executive Director, Patricia Lord. “Ensuring creatives of all disciplines, experience levels, and ages are paid for their creative labor can be a transformative opportunity; whether it launches a career, buys needed supplies, or pays a utility bill, funding support makes a difference to individuals. For all participants, members of the public and creatives, I hope X Days will help people experience the arts as a generative and positive force, particularly in difficult times.”
Co-curated by Franklin Thom and Brenda Montaño, X Days continues to evolve and grow, including more communities and new artists year over year. All events are free and open to the public and locals and visitors alike are invited to let their curiosity inspire them to explore Siskiyou.
The series includes many of the quality galleries and well-known venues in the area, however insider access to normally private studios, specially developed arts-oriented events, and the opportunity to meet some of the artists who call Siskiyou home is the highlight of this series.
