Plan on arriving in Siskiyou bright and early so you can take advantage of birds waking up when the sun first rises. Don’t forget to pack some snacks and a little patience! Butte Valley National Grassland has more than 18,000 acres of landscape and is home to Swainson’s hawk, golden eagles, bald eagles, merlin, red-tailed hawks and sandhill cranes, among many more flying wildlife.

About 35 miles away is the volcanic wonderland known as Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The volcanic wonderland is home to nearly 500 species of wildlife including waterfowl, shorebirds, songbirds, raptors, big game, small mammals and aquatic life. Hundreds of bald eagles also migrate to the area from November through April.

It’s a bird’s dream home at nearby Lower Klamath Wildlife Refuge. With more than 50,000 acres of landscape, you’re bound to spot many species here including eagles, raptors, swans, ducks and geese. The National Historic Landmark gets up to 1.8 million birds during peak waterfowl season!
