Siskiyou Beer Trail
Start in south Siskiyou with Dunsmuir Brewery Works, known for its delicious beer and fantastic food. Enjoy local beers brewed onsite and outdoor seating in this charming riverside town. Explore nearby Hedge Creek Falls, Castle Crags, or just stroll around downtown Dunsmuir and the nearby Botanical Gardens.
Next stop is Mt. Shasta, where you’ll find two craft beer tap houses worthy of a stop: Pipeline, Mt. Shasta’s favorite craft kitchen in downtown with a vast beer selection and diversely delicious menu. Also make sure to visit Deadwood Supply, a bike shop with 8 taps and coolers full of canned and bottled brews and ciders!
Spend the night in Mt. Shasta or Weed. Hit up a delicious hangover breakfast at Seven Suns, the original Black Bear Diner or the Hi-Lo Cafe. Then, continue on the Siskiyou Beer Trail at Mt. Shasta Brewing in Weed, a longtime local brewery known for their distinct beers and quirky alehouse.
For a fun detour, head 12 miles south from Weed to Callahan along Highway 3. Pass the turnoff to Kangaroo Lake on your wat to the historic and beloved Callahan Emporium. You’ll find a great roadside dive experience and can take a six-pack to go! In the early Spring you can check out California Peony Company and their fields of gorgeous blooms under the peaks of Callahan’s Mt Boliaer. Further along the highway is the Etna Brewing Company, one of the oldest breweries in the West. Founded almost on the exact site where the current taphouse sits, EBC is still brewing versions of the original recipes from the late 1800s!
Beer Festivals can also be a stop along your beer trail if you time it right. If you happen to visit in September, you can check out Siskiyou Beef and Brew in downtown Yreka. A delicious event serving up the finest local beef bites and craft brews. Dunsmuir hosts the River and Rail Brewfest happens early each August and features Live Music, Commercial Craft Breweries, Micro-Breweries, Homebrews, & Food/Craft Vendors in a one-day celebration of beer!
Finish your beer trail in Fort Jones at Five Mary’s Burgerhouse with a frosty pint bellied up to their 35 foot long single-slab sugar pine log bar top. While they don’t make their own beers, this impressive watering hole has been a fan favorite serving locals and visitors in Fort Jones for generations. Before the Heffernan family purchased the restaurant, it was known as the Cold Stream tavern and earlier than that Charley Bob’s. This is a must-see place where you can rub elbows with the locals and admire some small-town history.
