Good Eats in Mt. Shasta, CA

I love going on outdoor adventures in Siskiyou, and indulging in delicious meals. Finding and eating good food is one of the best parts of traveling. Today I thought it would be fun to share a list of my favorite places to eat in Mt. Shasta because I’ve stayed in the city on my last two trips to Siskiyou.

Please note, the list I shared below is based on my dining experiences. I have not eaten at all the restaurants in Mt. Shasta, so it’s likely that I’ve missed yummy eateries on my list. I’d encourage you to use the list below as a jumping off point to explore dining options in Siskiyou. While you’re in the area, ask locals and hoteliers for recommendations.

With that, here’s my list—in no particular order—of good eats in Mt. Shasta:

RESTAURANTS

Mike & Tony’s Restaurant has been serving Italian American food to locals and travelers since 1945. We hadn’t been to Mike and Tony’s for over five years and on our last trip to Siskiyou, we decided to go back and enjoy a good meal. I had a hard time deciding what to order, so I asked our waitress for advice. She recommended the special: duck, potatoes, and green beans. She said it was her favorite item on the menu, and I loved it too! My husband had a classic dish — spaghetti and meatballs, and he enjoyed every bite.

Hari Om Shri Ram Indian Cuisine is a lovely place to dine on a chilly winter evening. When we arrived, I was slightly disappointed that I couldn’t choose from the full menu. They don’t serve as many dishes in winter because it’s the slow season. However, I wasn’t disappointed with my hot meal; it was perfect for a cold night. I had rice, lentils, and delicious chicken curry, and was happy with my selection. Also, I’m looking forward to patronizing Hari Om Shri Ram again in the spring or summer. I want to relax at a table on their outdoor patio because it offers beautiful views of Mount Shasta.

Lilys serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and I’m a big fan of their Sunday brunch. The last time I was at Lily’s I had a Brussel Sprout Brunch Salad, which included fried Brussel sprouts, bacon, red onions, and tomatoes; the greenery was topped with goat cheese and a thick balsamic vinaigrette. I loved the meal so much that I’ve been making the brunch salad at home once or twice a week. My version isn’t as good as Lilys, but it’s getting better with time.

The Best Western Tree House in Mt. Shasta has a restaurant called Cooper’s Bar and Grill, and it is a comfortable place to eat. I enjoyed a plate of crab cakes and a big salad on a cold winter evening at a small table. I was a solo diner, yet didn’t feel lonely. The server was friendly, the restaurant was full, and I enjoyed watching locals and tourists come and go.

Lalo’s Restaurant and Lounge and Casa Ramos are fantastic Mexican food options in Mt. Shasta. I’m a creature of habit, and when I’m at either establishment, I order a taco plate with a margarita. Don’t worry though, there are lots of choices on their menu.

Seven Suns Coffee & Cafe is another one of my haunts in Mt. Shasta. The coffee is good, and you can get large or small meals. Recently, I ordered scrambled eggs and avocado at the cafe. It’s a simple meal, and one of my all-time favorites. Every time I visit Seven Suns, it’s busy, and that’s okay because the service is fast!

The Oven Bakery serves Northbound Coffee; locally roasted in Mount Shasta. They make an excellent pour-over coffee and make mouth-watering pastries and bread. On our recent trip to Mount Shasta, my husband had an almond croissant at the bakery, which was fresh out of the oven. I had a small bite, and it was tasty!

As I was paying for my coffee and Logan’s croissant, one of the bakers said, “I have a customer who eats six of our sticky buns in one sitting, and he looks amazing.” We were all slightly jealous of the mystery man who seemed to possess a fast metabolism. Then the gentleman behind us ordered two ham and cheese croissants, and when I looked over my shoulder at him, he said with a smile, “Don’t judge me, these things are delicious.”

Berryvale Grocery is a great place to stock up on food for your room or adventure picnics. They also have a lovely cafe that I’ve frequented over the years. I’ve had everything from coffee to green smoothies to larger meals like quinoa salads and eggs. There is plenty of seating, too.

Have fun on your foodie adventures!

PRO-TIPS

Lodging: Pair your Mount Shasta dining adventures with a stay at the Strawberry Valley Inn or the Dream Inn. Explore more lodging options in Siskiyou here.

Dining Tips: When you’re in Siskiyou, ask hoteliers or locals for dining recommendations, and if you walk by a restaurant that looks intriguing, check out the menu and try it.

More Foodie Fun: While I was in Mt. Shasta, I chatted with some locals, and they encouraged me to try restaurants in Mt. Shasta and patronize restaurants and cafes in McCloud and Dunsmuir, too. I didn’t have the time, or the metabolism, to eat everywhere. However, I added a McCloud foodie tour to my springtime Siskiyou adventure list.

Perfect Pairings: Take a walking tour of Mt. Shasta’s crystal shops and patronize restaurants and cafes along the way. Downtown Mt. Shasta is cute and walkable.
