Roadtrip Idea: Farm & Foodie Tour

Day 1: Etna & Ft. Jones (Scott Valley)

Head to Scott Valley, the “farm to fork” capital of Siskiyou. You’ll want to spend day 1 exploring Etna and Ft. Jones. In Etna on Saturday mornings from May to October is the lively farmer’s market with music and goodies in addition to several vegetable vendors. But any morning of the week, you can also pick some homemade bread and pastries from Farmhouse Bakery downtown. Explore the charming shops of downtown, then dine and drink at the Denny Bar Company, a local distillery that also features seasonal and local fare, tours and tastings. On the main drag in Fort Jones you’ll find foodie-favorite 5 Marys Burgerhouse. This friendly restaurant features their locally raised food beef and pork, and just down the street are the 5 Marys Farm Store and Marble Rim Gallery that feature all locally-made goods and products. Lodging that night is available in both Etna or Yreka, just 30 minutes east.

Day 2: Mt. Shasta, McCloud & Dunsmuir

From Etna or Yreka, make your way to Interstate 5. But before heading south, true foodies will want to make a morning stop in Yreka where they can sample the exquisite house-made quiche at Nature’s Kitchen and grab a locally-roasted Northbound coffee and book from Zephyr Books and Coffee. Next stop is Mt. Shasta, where Monday afternoons mark the bustling Farmer’s Market in charming downtown. Just a few miles east, foodies (and pretty much everyone!) will enjoy the dining, charming shops and old time candy store in historic McCloud.

That evening, round out the road trip in Dunsmuir, where you’ll find some of Siskiyou’s most delicious foodie stops. Stay the night at the beautiful Mossbrae Hotel in the heart of Dunsmuir’s historic downtown. Grab dinner at Cafe Maddalena and breakfast at the Wheelhouse. You’ll also want to check out Yak’s, rated by Yelp as one of America’s 100 Best Restaurants.
