Summertime Adventures in Siskiyou
Siskiyou is a beautiful region to explore with your family and a wonderful place to take a summertime trip. You can go berry picking, play in the water, learn about local history, and more.
Compliment your summer vacation with a few of the adventure ideas I’ve shared below.
Go to the Siskiyou Golden Fair
My husband grew up in Siskiyou, and one of his favorite parts of the summer included attending the Siskiyou Golden Fair. He loved the fair food, rides, checking out the educational booths, and seeing local art on display. The concerts and events are also a must see! The Holiday Inn Express and Comfort Inn in Yreka are great family-friendly lodging choices and are located just minutes from the fairgrounds.
Play in the Water
Love playing in the water? Spend a day at the Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort. You can swim or sunbathe at the beach, play in “The Splash Zone” with your kids, or rent a kayak or paddle board. Fishing and patio boats are also available to rent.
Explore Siskiyou’s History
Learning about local history is one of the joys of traveling. Plus, patronizing museums is an excellent way to get to know a community. Whether you’re exploring Yreka, Weed, or Happy Camp, Siskiyou has lots of history to uncover. Also, Siskiyou museums offer summertime adventures inside, away from hot temperatures.

Pick Berries & Flowers
Visit the California Heritage Farms U-pick berry patch and gather flowers, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. Your fingers might turn red and blue from picking so many berries, and it will be worth it! If you don’t eat all your berries, make a cobbler when you get home. And last but not least, bring multiple containers to transport your berry haul.
California Heritage Farms is located at 7715 Eastside Road in Fort Jones, CA, and during summer the berry patch is open from 6 am to 8 pm.
Attend Gold Rush Days in Yreka, CA
Every summer, Yreka celebrates its gold rush heritage by hosting Gold Rush Days. The event includes historical reenactments, a beer garden, gold panning, tasty food, and more. The event is located on historic Miner Street, it’s free, and open to the public.
This year’s event is June 15.
Enjoy Epic Views on the Trail
While you’re in Siskiyou, going on a hike is a great way to see the area. Plus, spending time outside can improve your health and well-being. For example, scientists have found that spending time in nature can decrease blood pressure, improve cognitive abilities, and enhance your creativity. In essence, Siskiyou is a lovely place to relax and recharge; especially on the trail.

Take a Road Trip
Take a road trip in East Siskiyou and see sights like the Tulelake National Wildlife Refuge, the Living Memorial Sculpture Garden, and stop along the way to take photos of Mount Shasta. Also, don’t forget to look for wildflowers on the route. Identifying wildflowers—like the Indian Paintbrush and Pacific Dogwood blossoms—is a fun activity for adults and kids!
