Spring Break Siskiyou Style

Spring Break in Siskiyou is awesome! It is an ideal time to visit because as the days get longer, there is more time to explore the outdoors. The whole area comes alive with colorful wildflowers and the warmer weather is great for so many activities at lower elevations. Mount Shasta always offers amazing views and there is still some snowy fun to be had. It’s the ideal location for a Spring Break getaway!

Hit the Slopes

When winter feels like it is coming to an end in town, Mount Shasta Ski Park doesn’t seem like the snow will be letting up anytime soon. Folks enjoy Springtime skiing, snowboarding, or tubing down the slopes, typically until mid-late April. The Ski Park offers terrain for all skill levels and a cozy lodge for relaxation, just don’t forget your sunscreen and shades for the mountain, as the spring sun can be quite strong. Mt Shasta Nordic Center also has snowshoeing and Cross-Country experiences until the snow melts, so pack your layers and enjoy a memorable Spring snow day on Mount Shasta!

Take a Hike

Springtime is perfect for hiking at lower elevations, and the diversity of trails in Siskiyou, have a variety of epic experiences. Spring Hill Trail, near downtown Mount Shasta, provides panoramic views of the town and the mountain, making it a quick and rewarding hike. For those seeking a challenge, Black Butte offers a strenuous climb with stunning views of Mount Shasta, Mt Eddy and the surrounding area. Box Canyon Trail, near Lake Siskiyou, is a family-friendly hike that takes you through lush trees and past old, abandoned cars, ending at a small rock outcropping. These trails showcase the natural beauty of Siskiyou and are perfect for Spring adventures.

Go Chasing Waterfalls

Siskiyou also has some awesome waterfalls to check off during a spring break visit! McCloud Falls is a must-see with its three tiers—Lower, Middle, and Upper—each offering a unique view and easy access. Typically, there is a bit of snow lingering around in the Spring, so make sure to check the conditions before heading out. Hedge Creek Falls in Dunsmuir is a cool spot where you can actually walk behind the waterfall and its right off Interstate 5. Lake Day!

Spend a day at Lake Siskiyou or one of our many other lakes, where you can enjoy boating, fishing, kayaking, or simply relaxing by the water. Many folks like to bike or hike the 7-mile Lake Siskiyou Loop Trail following the shore of the lake. Juanita Lake and Medicine Lake are two other East Siskiyou lakes offering lots of recreational options and stunning views. The water is likely still too cold for swimming this time of year, so only take a polar plunge if you dare!

With five public golf courses to choose from and many with views of snowcapped Mount Shasta, no wonder people love golfing here! Siskiyou is proudly home to Weed Golf Club, Lake Shastina Golf Resort, McCloud Golf Club, Indian Point Golf Course, and Mount Shasta Resort. Each course offers a different experience and amenities like on-site dining and lodging, lessons, rentals etc.  Yreka even has a disc golf course at Greenhorn Park if that is more your style of golf. Either way, the pleasant weather and beautiful scenery make Siskiyou ideal for golf in Spring.

Cycle around

Road biking, MTB and even just a casual cruise during Spring Break is the perfect experience and the weather is typically ideal for biking in Siskiyou. Greenhorn Park in Yreka offers well-maintained trails perfect for mountain biking. Mt. Shasta Mountain Bike Park caters to all skill levels with diverse trails and a new Skills Park, set against the stunning backdrop of Mount Shasta. For a mix of small-town charm and challenging rides, the Fort Jones – Etna – Island Loop provides charming roads and high-alpine climbs with little traffic, making it ideal for a memorable cycling adventure. Peep some Blooms

Check out Springtime flora and fauna at locations like Little Shasta Meadow Botanical Area or Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens. The South Gate Meadow Trail and Panther Meadows are great for seeing lush displays of lupines, pasque flowers, and more from May to July. Additionally, the Marble Mountains in the Klamath National Forest is perfect for adventurous hikers, with wildflowers like Western columbines and even some rare varieties found only here like the Siskiyou fireweed blooming in open meadows and rocky areas along the trails. There is even an annual Wildflower Show held in Yreka each Mother’s Day. Check the events calendar for details!
