Spring Break Siskiyou Style

Spring Break in Siskiyou is awesome! It is an ideal time to visit because as the days get longer, there is more time to explore the outdoors. The whole area comes alive with colorful wildflowers and the warmer weather is great for so many activities at lower elevations. Mount Shasta always offers amazing views and there is still some snowy fun to be had. It’s the ideal location for a Spring Break getaway!

Hit the Slopes

When winter feels like it is coming to an end in town, Mount Shasta Ski Park doesn’t seem like the snow will be letting up anytime soon. Folks enjoy Springtime skiing, snowboarding, or tubing down the slopes, typically until mid-late April. The Ski Park offers terrain for all skill levels and a cozy lodge for relaxation, just don’t forget your sunscreen and shades for the mountain, as the spring sun can be quite strong. Mt Shasta Nordic Center also has snowshoeing and Cross-Country experiences until the snow melts, so pack your layers and enjoy a memorable Spring snow day on Mount Shasta!

Take a Hike

Springtime is perfect for hiking at lower elevations, and the diversity of trails in Siskiyou, have a variety of epic experiences. Spring Hill Trail, near downtown Mount Shasta, provides panoramic views of the town and the mountain, making it a quick and rewarding hike. For those seeking a challenge, Black Butte offers a strenuous climb with stunning views of Mount Shasta, Mt Eddy and the surrounding area. Box Canyon Trail, near Lake Siskiyou, is a family-friendly hike that takes you through lush trees and past old, abandoned cars, ending at a small rock outcropping. These trails showcase the natural beauty of Siskiyou and are perfect for Spring adventures.

Go Chasing Waterfalls

Siskiyou also has some awesome waterfalls to check off during a spring break visit! McCloud Falls is a must-see with its three tiers—Lower, Middle, and Upper—each offering a unique view and easy access. Typically, there is a bit of snow lingering around in the Spring, so make sure to check the conditions before heading out. Hedge Creek Falls in Dunsmuir is a cool spot where you can actually walk behind the waterfall and its right off Interstate 5. Check out more of Siskiyou’s waterfalls, great for casual hikes and soaking in the natural beauty.

Lake Day!

Spend a day at Lake Siskiyou or one of our many other lakes, where you can enjoy boating, fishing, kayaking, or simply relaxing by the water. Many folks like to bike or hike the 7-mile Lake Siskiyou Loop Trail following the shore of the lake. Juanita Lake and Medicine Lake are two other East Siskiyou lakes offering lots of recreational options and stunning views. The water is likely still too cold for swimming this time of year, so only take a polar plunge if you dare!

Hit the Links

With five public golf courses to choose from and many with views of snowcapped Mount Shasta, no wonder people love golfing here! Siskiyou is proudly home to Weed Golf Club, Lake Shastina Golf Resort, McCloud Golf Club, Indian Point Golf Course, and Mount Shasta Resort. Each course offers a different experience and amenities like on-site dining and lodging, lessons, rentals etc.  Yreka even has a disc golf course at Greenhorn Park if that is more your style of golf. Either way, the pleasant weather and beautiful scenery make Siskiyou ideal for golf in Spring.
